Question
My family will be in BA, and would like to drive to the Bariloche area; so can you suggest the highlights of where we should DRIVE ( we are to old for long hikes), and places "not to miss" in that area. Also, do we need three/four/or more days in Bariloche area.I am figuring two days drive each way from BA to Bariloche -- we have about 14 days to do this trip. We have thought about the boat trip across the lakes, but that would leave us without a car at the other side, and we would just return the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi!  Before I forget, you could do the lake crossing by boat/bus and then just bus the way back to Argentina.  I have done this before.

I do have a suggestion..........pick up Lonely Planet's book on Argentina and this will be a great help for you.  There is a map in there that tells you the important areas (right in the front) to see on your way to Bariloche.  Peninsula Valdes is a definite stop to see the penquins.  There is also whale watching to be done, if you are traveling in the right time of season.

I have never taken a car south but sure you will have a most enjoyable trip.  Sorry that I can not help you more.  Kathy

I have been to Argentina many times and the last in 2007. Have visited, IGU Falls, Mendosa, Northern parts of Argentina (Salta). I also do volunteering for Peru/Ecuador/Chile/Brazil. Just never took the time to sign up for Argentina but now having been to more areas, feel I could help those that want to travel there. Kathy
