Argentina - thinking to spend some time in argentina

Expert: Leandro Garcia - 8/5/2007

Question
been to argentina a few times and see it as a good place to enjoy a high quality of life without the high cost.  i have about 100k invested in stocks that i planned to live off the interest on.

Firstly, does this sound reasonable or even possible to do in Argentina?  I was thinking to live somewhere near Salta.  Maybe get a small ranch in el campo and just relax a bit, watch the stars, eat asado and drink wine... you know.

Secondly, what visa should I get?  Is there an easy tourist visa renewal office near there?  I know of uruguay being the ideal jaunt from BA, but is there something similar near Salta?

And thirdly, if I were to marry a Peruvian girl who holds Argentinian Residency (DNI) does that give me any right to live there longer then a few months?

Answer
Daryl,

I don't know how much interest you are making a year off those 100k. I can tell you that you need about 22.000 a year to cover your living expenses. Living in Salta is way cheaper than living in Bs. As. so you could even need little money. Answering your first question, I think it is possible if you have some money available.
Secondly, if I were you I wouldn't mess with the visa paperwork, I would just make it easier and stay in Argentina for the time customs allows you (usually 3 to 6 months) and after that time is up, I would visit some border countries near Salta in order to renew my stay in Argentina. You can travel to Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Brazil. Does it make sense?
Regarding marrying a Peruvian, what you'll get is eligibility to the same rights as your future wife already has.
Feel free to ask me any other questions.
