About Judy Frayne
Expertise
I specialise in the mixing of oils. Every problem has a different solution depending on the underlying causes.A simple headache could be caused for a number of different reasons. Tracking down the origins of a problem is the first step. I can then advise on the correct oils to use,how to buy them and the methods with which they can be applied. I can also recommend other complimentary techniques for self help with many physical and emotional problems. Feel free to ask about: Skin disorders - eczema, psoriasis, atheletes foot Muscular aches and pains - arthritis, neck and shoulder tension. Painkilling - headaches, chronic pain, backache. Digestive disorders - IBS, constipation. Stress - depression, anxiety, grief, anger, concentration. Medicine cupboard - bites, stings, cuts, bruises, burns. Babies and childrens - tummy aches, colds, sleep problems. And many more !

Experience
I have been a qualified aromatherapist for twelve years, working in my own premises as well as mobile visiting. My clients have been varied - ranging from babies to the elderly and sadly, the terminally ill. Whilst many clients simply wish to use aromatherapy to promote a feeling of well being and keep themselves relaxed and healthy - I have had much experience of clients with specific needs. These are just as wide ranging - from skin disorders to back problems on the physical side - to the emotional and spiritual side of things and problems such as coping with grief and bereavement or helping combat anger and stress. I use a mixture of techniques including reflexology. I believe that aromatherapy is a very simple and natural method of self help that can compliment conventional techniques. I am passionate about passing on safe and sensible advice so that more people feel confident to try aromatherapy for themselves. Aromatherapy is not always a cure - but it's potency should never be underestimated. It can help, it can be life changing - and it's certainly worth trying

Question
QUESTION: Hi there,
I'd like to make up an aloe vera and lavender gel to use on my 2 children who are 6 months old and 4 years old.  I have a friend whose involved with aromatherapy blending but he's asked me to give him the percentage of aloe vera juice and lavender eseential oil to add to his base gel.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Melanie

ANSWER: Hi Melanie
Before I advise - could you tell me what the purpose of the blend is ? This would affect my recommendations for how much oil/aloe vera to use in a blend. I might also be able to recommend some other oils.
Thank you
Judy

QUESTION: Hi Judy,
Thanks so much for the prompt response.  I've always kept jars of lavender gel, aloe vera cream, arnica gel etc. in my kitchen cupboard for everyday ailments i.e. burns & scalds - whether it be sunburn on my kids or iron and oven burns on me.  I'd just like to make something up which combines the 2 products and still smells nice enough to not scare my kids silly when trying to put it on them.  I find a gel base far easier to apply to kids.  My nieces and nephews are always wanting some when they're around so I thought I'd bottle some and give it to my sisters to use on their children too.  Once again, any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. Kind regards, Melanie

ANSWER: Thanks for that Melanie. I have to say I haven't ever used aloe vera juice added to a gel base. However - given that this is to go on young skins I would use up to ten drops of lavender and the same for the aloe vera juice in a 50ml jar of gel.
Lavender is brilliant for taking the heat out of small burns, as you say, and it's calming properties are great for shock when an accident has happened. It is quite safe to use it neat on small burns or bites, especially when they first happen.
I think the mix you have suggested is ideal for the purpose - the only reason I asked what the oils were intended for was because I thought it might be for eczema, in which case I would add up to five drops of Roman Chammomile as well.
Just out of interest - I have found that young children take very quickly to making up their own mixes. I have run childrens workshops for some years now. They have the basics explained to them and then I ask them to choose a person they would like to make something up for. We look at what that person might need or like in their mix and then the children just get trying and mixing for themselves. they usually come up with some really magical formulae. If you are interested I could send you the childrens worksheet that I use for my workshops.
Best wishes
Judy

QUESTION: Hi Judy,
That would be brilliant.  Can you recommend anything that I could add to calendula cream for everyday cuts & scrapes - again for application on small children?  I really look forward to reading your childrens worksheet.  Many thanks once again for all your help. Kind regards, Melanie

Answer
Hi Melanie
Please email me on missjif44@hotmail.com and I will email the worksheet to you.
The best antiseptic oils ( they all are really ) are Lemon and Tea tree. However they can make the skin sting a bit and I would only use them in very small quantities on young skin and also mix them with plenty of lavender, which would counter act the stinging. I would put maximum two drops each of lemon and tea tree in a 30 - 50ml base along with up to ten drops of lavender. I used to have a formula sheet for treating children. I'll try and find it for you.
