Question
Cara,
I am wanting to buy a diffuser for my oils and I was
wondering if there are some oils you recommend to work better
than others for this type of use?
If I use lavender to help me sleep or paine
when I have a bad migraine would those both
have the same good effectiveness being used in a diffuser?

It would really depend on what you were trying to treat with the oils. Almost all oils work well in the diffuser. Some may smell better than others filling your room, but all oils will work on your olfactory system. So experimenting with oils that you have in your diffuser is the best way to go. You do have to use some intuition in choosing whether to apply topically or in the diffuser. If you sprain your ankle, diffusing the Paine oil wouldn't be your best option rather applying it topically would be. However if you are having lung congestion it would make sense to rub the oil on your chest and diffuse it because the ailment is dealing with your respiratory system.
