Aromatherapy/Muscle weakness

Question
Hello Judy

I am Kamakshi from India and am very much interested in aromatherapy. I would like to know if aromatherapy can be helpful in curing muscle weakness and strengthening nerves and muscles. There are very few known aromatherapists here, so I would be thankful for the information you may give. I would also like to know how a person becomes an aromatherapist. Thanks a lot.

Best,

Kamakshi

Answer
Hello Kamakshi
Apologies for the delay in answering your question. I have had some problems in accessing the website.
With regard to your question, aromatherapy oils will not cure muscle and nerve  weakness. However, they are a useful aid to increasing the blood circulation around the body and when combined with massage and gentle regular exercise, will certainly have a beneficial effect on the strengthening process.I would also recommend a good reflexologist who will be able to stimulate the systems of the body to the same end.
Here are oils that may be of use for massage:

Rosemary is a good stimulant for the blood circulation and for the nervous system.
Black Pepper is again a great warmer and stimulant for the muscles and circulatory system.
Clary Sage is also great for circulation and good for the spine.
Lemongrass is another oil that is often recommended for muscle massage.

All these are quite harsh oils and if using in bath soaks or in a massage oil, I would use only a couple of drops each at a time. You could mix any or all of them together, but a really good idea would be to add some Lavender oil - up to three or four drops, which would counteract the harshness of these oils on the skin and be a lovely soother to the muscles as well.

As far as aromatherapy in India is concerned, this is something that has often been said to me. I am surprised it is not more widespread there - especially as the West has adopted so many techniques for healing and good health that have come directly from Eastern countries.I did a quick search on the Internet and came up with several links that may be of use. Here is one

I would certainly check out the Reflexology - it may be you can find someone who does both.

Best wishes

I specialise in the mixing of oils. Every problem has a different solution depending on the underlying causes.A simple headache could be caused for a number of different reasons. Tracking down the origins of a problem is the first step. I can then advise on the correct oils to use,how to buy them and the methods with which they can be applied. I can also recommend other complimentary techniques for self help with many physical and emotional problems. Feel free to ask about: Skin disorders - eczema, psoriasis, atheletes foot Muscular aches and pains - arthritis, neck and shoulder tension. Painkilling - headaches, chronic pain, backache. Digestive disorders - IBS, constipation. Stress - depression, anxiety, grief, anger, concentration. Medicine cupboard - bites, stings, cuts, bruises, burns. Babies and childrens - tummy aches, colds, sleep problems. And many more !

Experience

I have been a qualified aromatherapist for twelve years, working in my own premises as well as mobile visiting. My clients have been varied - ranging from babies to the elderly and sadly, the terminally ill. Whilst many clients simply wish to use aromatherapy to promote a feeling of well being and keep themselves relaxed and healthy - I have had much experience of clients with specific needs. These are just as wide ranging - from skin disorders to back problems on the physical side - to the emotional and spiritual side of things and problems such as coping with grief and bereavement or helping combat anger and stress. I use a mixture of techniques including reflexology. I believe that aromatherapy is a very simple and natural method of self help that can compliment conventional techniques. I am passionate about passing on safe and sensible advice so that more people feel confident to try aromatherapy for themselves. Aromatherapy is not always a cure - but it's potency should never be underestimated. It can help, it can be life changing - and it's certainly worth trying
