Question
I have an oil on canvas about 55 inches long and 31 inches wide signed Henry Jacobs I cannot seem to find any info on him
The companion paper that came with the painting states he was a painter before the great war, and studied under Professor Rhomberg at The Munich Academy Of Fine Art. Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hello Stephen - and thank you for your question.  I am sorry, I am not going to be much use.  I've never heard of Henry Jacobs nor do I know of any of his works.  It might be useful for you to have a look at your canvas and decide what 'genre' (subject) the painting depicts ... if there's a date or a period (you mention the 1st World War) -- then, if you can Google representative images you might find a link to 'your' artist.  His name does not appear among the annals of the 'great artists' - but he might be an unsung hero and you could have the honour (and pleasure) of 'discovering' him.  A fine art dealer specialising in either genre (landscape, interiors, etc.) or in pre-First World War German artists might also help.  The best known German artists of this period are Kandinsky (altho' he was Russian by birth) and Franz Marc (the Blaue Reiter) and the Die Brucke (three Dresden architectural students who took up painting - Kircchner, Rottluff and Heckel.)  Good luck in your search.
