Art History - St. John's Wood School of Art

Expert: Jeni Andrews-Fraser - 3/20/2008

Question
Hello Jeni,
Thank you for volunteering your expertise on this site. I am interested in obtaining records or artwork of AA Calderon, who was a Peruvian and principal of the St. John's Wood School of Art towards the last quarter of the 19th century.

I know what I am searching is close to impossible, but thought I might try. Do you know which dealers specialize in his period. I believe he showed at the Royal Academy in 1892 and 1895.

Sincerely yours,
Miguel Osterling

Answer
Hello Miguel - and thank you for your question.  I did a little research on the St John's Wood School (later Leigh and Hatherley's) to find your artist/principal.  I couldn't find any of his work, but since your question was about dealers, I've found this link (London-based) http://www.grosvenorfair.co.uk/exhibitors/
which may put you on a track that will prove useful/profitable.

Google (or any search engine) lists many art dealerships, but I thought the Grosvenor Air Fair was a good place to start since it listed specialisms .. and links to the individual dealers.

Good luck in your search.  Hope this (in part) answers your question.

Cheers
Jeni
