I am trying to look for info at American city such as NY, DC, Chicago...arts trends and history background, could you please help me out? thanks!

Well, I could refer you to a book I presently have up on eBay, that is a complete compendium of the murals in the Los Angeles area from 1918 - 1998.

It is the only book I know of that has gathered together artists living and working in a city and put them in one book.

The only other thing I could suggest would be doing a search at http://www.google.com and using the terms

New York + Art Movements
New York + Schools of Art (not "Art Schools")
New York + Artists
New York in Art

and so on.

The library and bookstore are the places to look for this kind of information -- not the Internet.  The Internet is specific and you need to know exactly what you are looking for to get good information.
