Question
Which artist is credited with inventing Chiaroscuro?

Answer
The invention of Chiaroscuro is not attributed to one particular artist. As early as 1285, Duccio di Buonisegna had applied this technique in the "Rucellai Madonna" to reveal a new emphasis on three-dimensional form. However, that is not to say that he had invented the technique, for whether or not he had been the first to use it is still to be argued.
