Question
How did the American Luminist painters influence American Impressionist painters?

Answer
Greetings Julie,

The American Luminists were similar to the Romantic landscape painters.  Many American Luminists 'became' American Impressionists, once the French Impressionists gained a reputation for flauting academic standards.  The younger generation mjumped on teh bandwagon.

For Luminism, you'll want to investigate Fitz Hugh Lane, Martin J. Heade, Jasper Francis Cropsey, and members of the Hudson River School.  Three major figures of the American Impressionist group were Julian Alden Weir, John Henry Twachtman, and Childe Hassam.

Best wishes, sincerely,
