Question
QUESTION: Who is considered "the father of our modern mode of painting"?

ANSWER: Hello Becki - and thank you for your question.  What do you mean 'modern mode' of painting -- are you asking about technique or subejct matter ... or both?  Cezanne is often considered the father of Modernism; but also some refer to Manet and equally Kandinsky (as the father of abstraction) could qualify.  You need to clarify your question and decide what you mean by 'modern mode'.

QUESTION: i meant the technique. i also know that he began to use canvas, rather than wood panels.

Answer
Hi Becki- I still don't know who your 'he' is nor can I understand your question.  Painting on canvas begins in the 14th century - often replacing wood panel painting - although there still are artists using panel painting methods throughout the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. Please clarify your question so I can give it better consideration.
