Art/Technology/Lithograph 15/15

Question
I have a R.C. Gorman Canyon de Chelly Night lithograph that is signed, dated and includes in the corner 15/15. We bought it from a reputable art gallery that valued it at $5K about 20 years ago. Would you consider this an artist-produced lithograph because of the lower total of only 15 being produced? Or could it also be that he worked with a studio which produced them?
Where could I go to find out the value of this lithograph?
Thank you so much. The answers on this web site are full of detailed information.

Sincerely,
Donna

Answer
This is not my field, but I will mention that R.C. Gorman was very popular in the 70s and 80s but in the last 20 has slid in reputable some.  There was the child abuse scandal and such.  So his name is still out there but after his death we did not see his prices shoot up.  I can't comment on the litho being from his hands or from a studio - you first step would be to contact a museum or gallery in New Mexico asking for information.  They will have a better grasp of his current pricing and such.

Good luck.
Tom

Expertise

As a conservator my focus is on the preservation/care of art objects as opposed to their value. I may assist in the identification of materials used in art making and some of the techniques in traditional art production. Please do not ask me about non-traditional medias such as computer software used to create "modern art". My three areas of specialty are: -European painting and sculpture (1600-1800) -The artifacts and documents of United Empire Loyalist (1770-1850) -Classic Fishing tackle (1850-1960) anything outside these areas may receive vague answers that merely point you in a fruitful direction.

Experience

I am a practising conservator and curator
