Are there reference material with pictures to show students what I am talking about?

Answer
Try surfing with "back-lighting" or "silhouette" as your search word. Wikipedia has some photos and good basic instruction, www.Flickr.com, has loads of high-res downloadable photos on and of every subject. If your question was more specific about what kind of medium/class level you are teaching, I could be more helpful. Here's a link which has step-by-step instruction:
