Question
This wooden stick is 2 in. by 2 in. by 4 ft. long what would you call it!  What price could be put on it? Has hand painting on it!

Answer
Tim,

These are very pretty.  I haven't seen anything like them before.  Are you making them?

Could they be made into tables, are they table legs?  I have shelves that are built out of 2 by 2s.  These would make them very decorative.

They could be used as pretty walking sticks except they seem to be square and walking sticks are usually rounder.

I feel I would just sit down and brainstorm all of the different ways they could be used?  Keep your eyes out for 2 by 2s being used in different items and think about how your sticks could be incorporated.

For instance they could be hollowed out and have beans put into them to make rain sticks.

What you call it depends on what you come up with.  Maybe the best thing to do is ask a business owner if you could stand in front of their business asking people about them.  You could ask questions like what would you use these for?  What would you call them?  How much would you pay for them?  Write down the answers you receive and use that information to create a plan.

The price depends on many things and may take some experimentation.  You have to take into account the price of the items used to make them.  Then you have to add the dollar per hour that you would like to make times the number of hours used to create the item.  You should also add a few dollars to account for the rent/mortgage on your work place, the electric, phone, other business expenses, cost of advertising, cost of shows etc.  However the maximum price is set by the market.  How much are people really willing to pay for your product?

Good luck,

Shasta
