Question Hello. I have been making and selling candles to my friends for the past few years. Alot of people are telling me I should expand and start selling wholesale to local shops. I assume I would need a business liscense for this. I was wondering where I can get detailed information about getting a business liscense, and also where can I find out if I would qualify for small business grants if I were to register as a business? (I am located in PA). Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Answer Dear Christine,
Yes, you will need to have a business license. Check with your state government. Generally they have a state website where you can locate all the information you need to obtain a business license.
Additionally you should check with your county and city government offices to see if you are also required to have any separate licenses. Since each state, county and local governments are different you need to check at the local level to see what the requirements are for your business and your industry.
As far as grants go, I would check with www.SCORE.org which offers free information for small businesses. In general SCORE is a group of retired business people who volunteer their time to assist people like yourself to establish and run small businesses. They are an excellent source of help and their services are free.
I hope this helps you.
Best of luck,
