Question Hi Jane,
Not sure if you recall the question asked by Kajal from India regarding career opportunities in Crafts. I do agree with you answer that most creative people do not need further education, however, in the current scenario, if one doesn't have a qualification which supports his/her skill/talent, it becomes difficult to prove oneself. Therefore, can you please let me know certain universities which would perhaps offer courses something close to the art and craft projects. Perhaps, the next best thing in terms of career post graduating from such an institute could be teaching small children on simple craft projects to inculcate an interest in it.

Answer Dear Medha,
It is my belief that you do not necessarily need more education before you start making money selling or marketing your crafts. Sometimes what happens is that people are simply procrastinating by saying they need to know more before they begin to sell their crafts or creative products. As we grow we can always take more and more classes learning new techniques and expanding our talents. But the point is - when do we actually begin our career? You can take classes learning and growing while at the same time creating a business and making a living.
Personally I have taken many classes in knitting and designing, often learning techniques that I did not know previously. However I started my apparel company with no educational background in either business or design. My business started as a cottage industry at home and ended up a multi-million dollar business when I sold it.
Along the way I learned what I needed to learn. I also hired people who knew things that I did not.
I am not the one to ask about Universities in India if that is what you were asking. In the US where I live there are many colleges and Universities that offer classes - these can be found in most all of the major cities - and there are also small colleges offering classes in certain arts & crafts - if you would let me know your particular interest perhaps I could be more specific.
I do offer coaching on a one-on-basis with clients who have a product or business and also have several programs and MasterMind Groups that people find extremely helpful to getting their products to market. I would be more than happy to discuss any of these with you.
Best of Success to you,
