Arts/Crafts for Kids - Milk Jug Rings

Expert: Laura - 11/3/2008

Question
I hope you understand what I am speaking of. Do you know of the rings that come off of milk jugs? If so, I would appreciate ideas as to crafts I can make with them. Any and all ideas are welcome. Thank you.

Answer
Hi!

Thanks for the question.

I have never made any crafts before using milk jug rings, but I spent a bit of time looking some different crafts ideas. Unfortunately, after looking around on the web, I could only find 1 idea.

Making a Plastic Milk Ring Ornament Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You’ll Need:
•   plastic milk jug rings
•   white glue such as Elmer's
•   small odds and ends, ribbon pieces, tiny beads, tissue paper scraps, and mroe
•   embroidery floss to match the color of your milk ring
•   large embroidery needle that will thread your floss (without separating strings
•   waxed paper
Step1
Place your milk cap ring on waxed paper, on a flat surface.
Step2
Fill the milk cap ring with your white glue (to the top inside edge of ring).
Step3
Gently press your items you want into the glue.
Step4
Let dry completely.
Step5
Gently peel your ornament from the waxed paper. Cut any glue from edge that may have spread outside the ring.
Step6
Embroidery Floss to Match Color of Milk Ring Thread your needle with a piece of embroidery floss and gently insert the needle through the edge where you desire the hanger.
Step7
Knot your thread and hang.
Step8
For the pink ribbon ornament I used a very small piece of yarn and just crossed it over to create the pink ribbon symbol.
Step9
For other ornament ideas, cut tiny pieces of leftover ribbon, small beads, torn pieces of colored tissue paper, yarn, glitter, sequins, or craft supplies or items you can recycle
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Good luck and have fun making crafts!
