Arts/Crafts for Kids - rubber band painting from MaryAnn Kohl

Expert: MaryAnn F. Kohl - 8/10/2009

Question
I remember using your rubber band painting technique before - however I now forget if you did the bands in paint, put them around your object and then spring them or if you put the bands on first, then the paint and then spring them.... we're ready for some messy fun! : )

Answer
There are different variations of this rubber band activity.

Here are two that come to mind. I think it's the second one that you're after.

1. Loopy Roller Painting:
Wrap rubber ands around a paint roller. ROll through paint and then roll on paper to make looping prints.

2. Snap Painting:
Stretch several rubber bands over an empty picture frame. Place paper on the table, and frame placed over. Paint the rubber bands. Then pull on a rubber band and snap it, letting it snap against the paper making a splashy print.

3. Rubber Band Paint Snap:
Dip a rubber band in paint. Then using two hands, push the rubber band against the paper with one hand, and pull back on the rubber band with one hand, and snap it against the paper. Experiment to learn how to do this. Messy hands!!
