Arts/Crafts for Kids/Grizzly Bear Mask

Question
Hi Sherri!
My 7 year old needs to make a grizzly bear mask.  As usual time is of the essence.  It is due on Wednesday, May 16.  Any ideas?  What about paper mache?

Answer
Hi Andrea,

Thanks for writing.  As far as using paper mache to to make a bear mask, I would say go for it if you had more time.  With paper mache, your best bet is to have atleast 3 layers and you should give each layer 24 hours to dry...

How about a paper plate mask?  Certainly not as grand as a paper mache mask would be, but it could easily be done in time which would mean less stress for you and your son!? :-)

Or how about one of these ideas:

Hope some of this helps!

Expertise

I have extensive experience working with children, and enjoy creating craft projects families can do together. Through the years, I have experimented with many different craft techniques using a variety of supplies. My personal favorite is creating treasures from trash! Why throw away toilet paper rolls or empty coffee cans? I also love all holiday crafts.

I have been a crafter in one form or another all my life. I have also been a day care provider and an elementary school employee. I am the mother of three. As a day care provider, I created my own curriculum program and craft projects for the kids.

I have volunteered in many youth and community organizations including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H, etc.

Publications
My craft articles and projects have been featured and/or reviewed by many publications such as Access Magazine, USA Weekend, and a few "who's-who on the Internet" books.

Education/Credentials
As an ex-day care provider and elementary school employee, I have taken various classes in child development and guidance. I have also attended many community craft classes for adults.
