Question Hi Ginger, thanks for your time reading my question. I'm planning on doing a project that needs mugs and paint that can be on the mug permanently. What kind of mug/paint should I get for the best result? Thank you!
Pauline
Answer Hi Pauline,
I have not painted mugs before but I have decorated some white ceramic bowls with glass paint. It worked well and they have held up to party use, it says they are not to come in contact with food, but as this is on the outside of the bowl it doesn't seem to be a problem. I also kept the design an inch down from the lip of the bowl and would recommend doing that for mugs for sure.
There are a few brands of paint out there, I have used Liquitex Acrylic Glossies. The paints are simple to use and mix together. The paints stay permanent when they are baked in the oven.
You can google the paint or find it at a craft store or at dickblick.com.
Also this paint looks great on glass, votive candles and vases are fun to decorate.
