Question
Hi, I would like to know the best way to make paper mache with things around the house, with the exception of glue. The recipes can NOT have glue. It's for a really big project, a sculpture no more than 40 cm. high. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Alex,

While I do prefer to use glue in my papier mache you can use a flour and water recipe.  Mix one part flour with two parts water.  Using warm water helps the flour dissolve better.  You need to mix it up to get all the little flour bumps out ( a fork helps) until you get a glue like consistancy.

If you need to add more flour or water to achieve this that is fine, just add a little at a time.  Sometimes this kind of papier mache can mold (which is why I prefer glue) but I have heard if you add a few tablespoons of salt that can help prevent the mold.

Use the papier mache with ripped newspaper strips to make whatever shape you want.

Hope this helps!
