Arts/Crafts for Kids - Scottish craft

Expert: MaryAnn F. Kohl - 2/4/2006

Question
I'm a Girl Scout leader desperately seeking an easy inexpensive craft that relates to Scotland. My troop has chosen to represent that country at a local forum. The girls participating will be ages 7-10. Any help would be much appreciated. I've wasted countless hours online in my search.

Answer
http://www.electricscotland.com/tartans/index.htm

This website will search "tartans", that is, plaids, to go with specific names. Could be fun...

Then you can click on "clad badges" or "shields" or "crests" and make some similar to those out of cardboard or illustration board or heavy paper plates. These can be made up to represent each girl in the group.

Perhaps the girls can each wear a swatch of fabric over their shoulders to represent different clans. Very cute would be hats (see this link http://www.houseoftartan.co.uk/scottish/dir2.asp?secid=69&subsecid=1510) where the hat has a special kind of ribbon on it.

In fact, they can draw their own...or create their own...plaids on butcher paper with marking pen and ruler.

I'm just guessing...maybe this will inspire you?
