Arts/Crafts for Kids - crafts for religion class

Expert: Ginger Lordy - 12/26/2004

Question
I need some craft ideas for my religion class for mentally challenged adults.  I have lots of bathroom tissue rolls and I have lots of small wooden wheels from a craft shop that was going out of business.  Any ideas would be helpful.  Thank you. Shirley

Answer
Hi Shirley,

I am sorry for the delay, I forgot to put my vacation days up on the site, hope I can still help . . . though I am not sure I have too many ideas - Do you have access to other supplies?

Do the wheels have holes in them - like they could be used for beads?  If you cut colorful magazine paper into triangles (about 1/2 inch to an inch)  and then roll them starting at the wide end around a pencil , putting just a spot of glue on the end and carefully slide it off the pencil you have handmade paper beads - perhaps a necklace?  Let the beads dry before stringing.

I immediately thought of cars with the paper rolls and wheels, you could use something like toothpicks or q-tips (just the center part) to connect the wheels.

I hope these ideas help, Happy New Year

Ginger
