I fought the idea of grating my own flakes...but gave in and found out it was no big deal...after a little R&D, I sat in my chair with a medium sized WIDE plastic bowl, a large grater, and a box of zipper sandwich baggies...and 36 large bars of Ivory Soap! (and a waste basket for the empty wrappers) All it took was 3 minutes per bar (2 just for the grating)...and just drop it into the bags by loose handfuls. And it was so worth it...good clean fun...even my neat-nuts finally gave in and enjoyed themselves. At school, I dropped about 1 cup into each 16oz plastic cup, added 2 tablespoons of water and let them at it. After it was mixed, they dumped their pile onto a paper plate and (eventually) made snowballs for snowmen! This is as close as we can come to the "real thing" here in Florida. My preschoolers had a blast! I would recommend covering the tables with taped-down newspaper for easy clean-up...I thought the soap would be easier to wash up...NOT!
