Arts/Crafts for Kids/suggestions?

Question
My 8 year old granddaughter is with me for a couple of days and I was wondering how to keep her occupied, any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Nancy,

Thanks for writing.  There are so many options for craft with your grand daughter that I am not sure where to begin! :-)

Perhaps you can start out by making crafts related to her favorite things.  For example, if she loves cats, make cat related crafts and so on.  I have several great resources, all broken down into different categories.

If you would like to be able to make things with items you already have lying around your house, ythis page might be helpful:

Hope some of this helps, and I also hope you and your grand daughter have lots of fun!

Expertise

I have extensive experience working with children, and enjoy creating craft projects families can do together. Through the years, I have experimented with many different craft techniques using a variety of supplies. My personal favorite is creating treasures from trash! Why throw away toilet paper rolls or empty coffee cans? I also love all holiday crafts.

Experience

I have been a crafter in one form or another all my life. I have also been a day care provider and an elementary school employee. I am the mother of three. As a day care provider, I created my own curriculum program and craft projects for the kids.

Organizations
I have volunteered in many youth and community organizations including Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4H, etc.

Publications
My craft articles and projects have been featured and/or reviewed by many publications such as Access Magazine, USA Weekend, and a few "who's-who on the Internet" books.

Education/Credentials
As an ex-day care provider and elementary school employee, I have taken various classes in child development and guidance. I have also attended many community craft classes for adults.
