QuestionHello Andy,
This is a great service that is provided, thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions. My girlfriend and I will be visiting your second home June 29th til July 5th... I know a short visit but I girlfriend could only take this time off. We are a fun couple and are looking to get the best experience from our visit. We are looking for the best places to eat/party/relax a little. Currently we have a reservation at the Hyatt, do you feel that is a good place for a young 30ish couple?
What would you suggest the best way to get to our hotel from the airport? What are the tax % of Aruba?
Daytime: We are looking to take in some sights, thought of doing the 4 wheel tour of the island not sure how much would they would cover. Also thought of doing the (Jolly Pirates boat ride), would doing both be worth it? Is it smart to schedule these events online or wait until we get to the island? What part of the beach would be somewhat quiet? Wouldn’t want not get stepped on or run over by little ones, at the same time would like to be close enough to try some beach activities. Would like to go to some of the small shops would downtown be the best place?
Nighttime: Are there any good places that would provide happy hours. Where would you go for a romantic dinner for two? Could you give me two options? We are also looking for a few night spots to go to a place that would play some Urban/Reggae Dancehall/Soca music.
Thanks again for your time.
AnswerHi Zim!! First, the Hyatt is a great place to stay. It is located in the "High Rise" section of the island. Most of the islands bars, restaurants and "things to do" are located in this section. You may not have to venture far out of the way to find the things you like.
Airport to Hyatt...quickest and least hassle free way is to take a taxi. When you exit the airport, you will see them lined up. Shouldn't be more than a minute or two wait.
Tax..last I knew there was a 3% tax on purchases, but when dining, there is a 15% service charge posted to the bill. This is usually considered the tip, but you may leave a bit more if the service warants it.
Jolly Pirates..One of the most popular and friendliest boat ride there is...Don't miss that!
For first timers, the 4WD or Island tour is a must to see Arubas natural beauty and the "other side" of the island.
The shops in the hi-rise area VS Downtown prices are pretty much the same. Unless you want to visit the downtown area, you can snoop around there. Best way would be to take the bus...$2.30 for a round trip. The malls are like a 5 minute walk from the bus station.
Most places show prices in Florin (or AFL) so do not get any sticker shock when you see some prices. American dollars and credit cards are widely accepted everywhere. AFL 1.75 = $1.00 US.
There will be plenty of brochures at the hotel so you can sit and figure what you may want to do.
One restaurant you may want to try for good service and food, plus dining view of the beach would be Matthews, Located at the Casa Del Mar. About a 10 minute taxi ride. When done, there are always taxis waiting out front for your ride back.
The beach at the Hi Rise area are sometimes congested due to the volume of people staying there, but July is a very slow time, so I do not think you will be crowded. I go myself the last 2 weeks of August because of the island being "slow". If there is anything else I can help you with, do not hesitate to contact me again!!! Otherwise, have a great trip!!!
