Aruba/Low-cost vacationing

Question
I don't normally travel out of the country because of the expense. But a combination of frequent-flier miles and timeshare credits is getting me to Aruba later this month.

My wife and I don't drink, dance, or gamble. And our budget is very low. But we are very adventurous and would be interested in do-it-yourself activities. Any suggestions? Hiking or impressive sights? Inexpensive alternatives?

Answer
Hi Bob! First timers to Aruba means there are plenty of things to do and see! You can climb Mount Hooieberg to get a great view of the island, but the best is Island tours, which almost all tour operators have. They are reasonably priced. All hotels have activities desks in the lobbies with brochures and info. Sunset sails are also popular. Attractions like the butterfly farm, donkey sanctuary are also popular. Naturally, shopping downtown (budget permitting) and a walk thru Whilemena Park is nice. The California Lighthouse on the northern tip is a nice place to walk around also. Even if you tend to get a bit bored, so many people return to Aruba every year, and are very friendly. Conversations are easily established, and they can fill you in even more on places to go/things to do that they experienced. I go every yearyself for 2 to 3 weeks, and always have a destination! If there is anything more I can help you with, please do not hesitate to call on me again! Have a Great trip!
