Aruba/Moving to Aruba for school
Expert: Andy Mendyk - 6/1/2006
QuestionMy husband has been accepted into Aruba's Xavier Medical School starting May 2007. Myself & our 6 yr old son would love to move with him for the 2 yrs, but from what I've read is that we would only be able to stay for 90 days max. Is that correct? Also, if I could go I would like to be able to work as a registered nurse. Are nurses in as high demand there as they are in the US? Lastly, have you heard anything about schools which my son could attend? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kelsie
AnswerHi Kelsie! Correct...you are allowed on the island 90 days per year. However, I do not know if there may be special considerations for your circumstance. Your husband may inquire at the school if his family can have a residency permit that covers the time he will be there, ot contact the Immigration authorities and I am sure they can give you an answer. I suppose you can work as a nurse there, but as in the States, you will have to go thru all the proceedures and liscensing requirements. They may be different then in the States. You will require a work permit on your own for this venture. Aruban schools are like here in the States, with the exception that they are also taught languages. Most Arubans speak 4 languages! That is just about what I can tell you on residency, however, if there is anything else I can help you with..do not hesitate to call on me again!!
