Aruba/Surfing in Aruba

QuestionAndy,
First of all, I wanted to find out if you are a surfer? and I ask this question not to be a smart ass, but because if you really are I am sure you've been searching that wave in Aruba ever since you stepped on the island for the first time. Second, I am a surfer and I am relocating to Aruba for business reasons. I have never been there, but I cannot stop thinking that there must be surfers in the island that hunt fair swells every so often. I have looked for surf shops and you're right, there's none! Man! I currently live in Georgia! so nothing can be worst than that!
thank you
AnswerHi Rafael! I remember answering a simular question like this a year ago. I am not a surfer, but i understand the passion you have for it, just as I look forward to things I am interested in. I recall telling someone that there is no surf shops in aruba...and I guess you can confirm that. Unless there is a storm off shore (like a hurricane) the largest waves I have seen were 1 to 2 footers, and dissipated quickly. On the east side of the island, it is a bit rough..you may get 2 to 3 footers at times, but get busted up as the shore is pretty rough! Now..WINDSURFING is popular there, especially in April when the tradewinds pick up, and they have a competition there every year, but I don't think this is what you were looking for. My ex lives in georgia...so I got that going for me, as I am in connecticut. Thats about all I can say on the surfing bit, but i do envy you on your position to relocate. It's a calm, beautiful Island. VERY pleasant people. If there is anything you need to know on your transition to the Island..please do not hesitate to contact me again, and...GOOD LUCK!!!
