Question
Q What were the reasons that lead Muslims kings to attack india?

Answer
Dear Digvijay:

I am sorry for the delay in replying to your question for the reason that it required me to give the whole North-West Indian history a serious thought. There were many factors, which I would ennumerate below:

1. Barbarity of islam which authorized loot, rape, and taking of slaves: Just look at the history of Islam. It started with brigandage, looting caravans, sharing the loot among muslims. Even Allah and Mohammad were entitled to one fifth of the loot.

I would not expand on this but mention one incident which is typical. Mohammad attacked the Jewish tribe of Bani al-Mustaliq without any provocation and killed all men. He purchased Juwairiya, the daughter of their chief who fell in the share of one of his men on the condition that she would marry him. He was angry with his women when they requested him to leave Juwairiya for a few days to tide over her sorrow. Mohammad slept with her the same day on which her husband and father were killed.

India had no inkling of such a diabolical religion.

2. Division of the society in India: The four-fold division placed the onus of fighting on the kshatriyas. The other divisions just watched the war. If all could have joined, the muslims could have been defeated.

3. Absence of a strong kingdom in Sindh and North-West India: Indians had small kingdoms. They engaged in small wars among themselves. But they were not prepared for a concerted assault that the muslims mounted and went down one by one. If there was an emperical force of the type Chandragupta Maurya or Chandragupta Vikramaditya in these regions, they could have faced the muslims. The small kings did not unite to face a stronger enemy in the Greek fashion when they faced the might of the persian empire. Some even invited them in their intercene warfare.

4. Two religions which divided the populace: Predominance of buddhism in North-West India. Buddhism was even more pacific than hinduism. The two religions created a hiatus in Indian society.

5. Greed: In nearly all wars, their were hindus who subotaged the war.

6. The Indian habit of acceptance of the foreigners: Hindus served the foreign armies (that happened in case of British also).

This is not the last word on history of Western India. I would be happy to discuss it more. With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Aupmanyav
