Question
Dear Sir,

Why did the English decide to partition Bengal?

Thanks

Answer
"The provincial state of Bengal had an area of 189,000 square miles and a population of nearly 8 crores. It included the Hindi-speaking regions of Bihar, the Oriya-speaking regions of Orissa as well as the Assamese-speaking region of Assam, making it a huge administrative entity."

Most probably Lord Curzon was doing it for administrative convenience. That it exacerbated Hindu-Muslim divide was perhaps an unforeseen consequence.
