QuestionAn american was recently appointed to manage his firm's officd in Singapore. Anzious to know success in this endevor he called a staff meeting to outline his objectives soon after his arrival. When he was enthusiastic, the american would slap his fist against his palm to make a point. This he did when he told his staff that he was optimistic about the future they would have together. He noted that his staff reacted immediately with laughter, giggling or embarrassed looks. He was confused because he knew that he was misunderstood but did not know why. Where did he go wrong?
AnswerHi!
I'm so sorry for the late reply. I wasn't able to log onto the Allexpert network for the past few days.
Anyway, I don't think the it was because of the American slapping his fist against his palm that caused the laughter. Rather, I feel it's due to something else. Could the American slap his fist so hard that his belly shook so much that it became rather hilarious? Or could it be because of the location of his hands was near his genitals? I forgot to ask, may I know whether the American is a male or female? Forgive me for being straight to the point, but if the American slapped his fist against his palm so hard that the chest shooke, that it is no wonder why his staff felt embarrassed. Singaporeans, although are becoming more open, are still a conservative lot.
I hope that has helped. If not, feel free to clarify anything with me.
