Question
My dog was resting quietly when all of a sudden he woke up wimpering and couldn't stand except for his front legs.  When I helped him up onto his hind legs he yelped a bit and sat back down.  His pulse, respirations, pupils all look fine and he has pink gums.  His stomach feels taut and he had an episode of diarrhea several hours earlier.  Can you offer any suggestions as to why he is having trouble standing but is normally very active or why he has a kind worried look on his face like Boston's can do?

Answer
Ron -

Have your veterinarian examine your dog to determine why he is behaving in this manner.  Unfortunately, I cannot give you a diagnosis without the benefit of a physical exam.

He probably has that worried look on his face because he may be in pain or some sort of discomfort.
