Ask the Veterinarian/cats upper lip swollen

Question

Beezies lip
We were told it was an allergy, but it is getting worse and now she is having problems breathing and eating. Any idea what it is?  We are giving her pred in pill form.

Answer
This is called a rodent ulcer.  It is treatable with steroids.  It is an allergy to something, either food or food bowls.  I sometimes use a long acting steroid shot called DepoMedrol rather than tablets, and I sometimes laser them when they don't respond.
