I am NOT a vet and do NOT diagnose diseases. That is only for a licensed Veterinarian to do. I will give you suggestions and steer you toward calling your vet for help. You can call the vet's office and talk to the technician there or the vet at times. Don't be afraid to call them! If you have a serious issue with your pet please post it to one of the veterinarians in here- I will tell you the same thing in my answer.
IF your pet is injured or in an emergency situation, CALL YOUR VET- Do not wait and post in here. Just call the vet's office and get them in to see the vet right away. Critical treatment time is lost if you seek answers here when you should have your precious pet at the vets!! Don't sit at home waiting for an answer when your pet is critically ill or injured!!

Question Good evening. Last night my 4/5 month old shih tzu/poodle puppy ate part of a pumice stone and this morning I noticed a little bit of blood near her feces. It was not bloody feces but just a few drops nearby. She has been energetic, hungry and everything as normal and has not had any other problems with her stool today.
She is completely up to date with all shots and is being spayed on Wednesday. I am just wondering if possibly the pieces of the pumice stone could have hurt her when she was passing them or if there is something else at work here.
She is not from a puppy mill but from a private breeder in our area who has very healthy beautiful dogs.
Any advice? It is evening here and no vets are currently open but if necessary I could call the emergency service.
Thank you,
Stephanie
Answer Stephanie,
what you are seeing is frank blood from the vessels by the rectum being irritated. Eating something coarse like pumice stone will certainly do that.
If she seems fine this evening and she ate it over 24 hours ago most likely she will pass it all.
