Ask the Veterinarian/Hair regrowth

Question
I have a 7 year Pomeranian rescue - I have had her shaved about 6 weeks ago and her hair is growing in patches- there are several large patches on her back that are not growing at all. Could this be a skin issue?  She has a history of Kidney problems and respiratory problems common to rescue dogs.

Answer
Yes, there are many cases of post-clipping alopecia out there.  Give it time and it will re-grow eventually.   Some Poms have a condition called the "hyperadrenal syndrome" in which their adrenal glands produce too many hormones, like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.  Those changes in hormone levels can also prevent the proper growth of hair.  Ask your vet to check that.
