Question
I have a baby dwarf hamster who is seventeen days old. When I cleaned the cage at 14 days, I noticed that his ear was red and looked like it was torn off. It is no longer red after 3 days, but his outer ear is gone! He seems to eat well and gets around o.k., but I'm worried. Do you think he or she will be alright?

Answer
Jacquelyn -

Your baby hamster is likely to be okay, however it is difficult for me to say without first examining your pet.  Was he in the cage alone? Or are there other hamsters?  You may want to contact the seller regarding the condition of your hamster.

Take your hamster to your veterinarian - he/she can give your newborn hamster a thorough physical examine
