Expert: Charlotte Sherrell, DVM - 6/9/2008

Question
I have a 2 year old dachshund and she has not been nuetered yet. She was in heat in mid April. I was very careful not to let her out and I have no male dogs only females. Just recently we have noticed her boobs swelling especially the last two and she seems to be less active than normal. She has not gained any weight that I can tell. She is current on all of her shots and due with in the month for her next vet check up. Is there anything that would make her have these symptoms other than preganancy? Thank you.

Your dog may be experiencing a false pregnancy.  See a veterinarian to determine what's going on - there are medications to help with a false pregnancy, but spaying is probably the best thing to do for her.
