Question
I have a 13 mo old pit bull. When I got home today she had eaten all of her food and water.  She had really bad diarrhea that was almost yellow in color but no blood.  She can not stand or even get up on her hind legs.  She normally runs for treats and to greet people but she won't even budge.  Any ideas?

Answer
You should take your pet to be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. There are several diseases that can cause an animal to develop diarrhea - this can be determined by a doctor.  The fact that she is very weak may indicate something serious and the longer you wait to seek help the worse your pet may become.

I urge you to seek medical care for your dog immediately.  Often conditions such as diarrhea can worsen if they are not treated. The doctor may recommend diagnostics testing such as bloodwork to check for conditions such as pancreatitis or a viral condition, or radiographs to check for a foreign body (is it possible that she could have eaten something, perhaps a one of her toys?).

I am not aware of the vaccine status of your pet, but I hope that you have had her vaccinated and she is on heartworm prevention.

Good luck -
