Question
My adult male got his rabies vaccination yesterday.  He seemed a little sluggish last night, but not terribly.  This morning he has diarrhea and is definitely sluggish.  Is this a reaction to the shot?

Answer
Patti -

This may possibly be a reaction to the vaccine.  If the vaccination was performed at a veterinarians' office, then call the office and speak with the staff to determine so they can inform the doctor that your pet many be experiencing a vaccine reaction. They may suggest that your bring your pet in so his doctor can evaluate him.

Vaccines are effective and are necessary to prevent infection from serious diseases. Unfortunately, some pets may have mild to severe side effects from the vaccines admininstered.  Stay in touch with your veterinarian to determine if your pet is having a mild or severe reaction.
