Ask the Veterinarian/Stray Cat's strange pupils...

Question
There is a stray cat that comes to my patio to, I suppose, cool off, as I live in Texas and it has been in the hundreds lately. I noticed that it's pupils are triangular, not the normal side-almond shaped. Does this cat have something wrong with it? It appears to be young (6-8 months). Also, I have an indoor cat and she doesn't like it when this other cat comes around. Any suggestions? I don't want to give it water (even though he pants on my porch) because I know this will keep him coming back. Please let me know about this strange visitor.

Thanks!

It is difficult to say what is wrong with the cat's pupil without actually seeing the eye and examining it.

Give the cat food and water until you can take it to a local place such as the Humane Society or contact a local rescue group.  They will will able to help you or to lead you to someone that is willing to give this cat a home.

I would not recommend taking the kitty to the city animal shelter  because there he is likely to be put to sleep  if he is not healthy enough (depending on their policies.)  Most local rescue groups have the resources to  get medical help and place these animals as pets.  Your city animal shelter may not have the time or resources to help him find a home.

Good Luck -
