Ask the Veterinarian/Yeast infections in ears

Question
My 9 year old lab has a yeast infection of the ears, and she has had it for a few years. We have tried everything, we have taken her to the vet for treatment and it came right back. Do you have any advice or a suggestion to help? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Almost all yeast infections are due to allergies.  In a lab, it could be a food allergy or an environmental allergy.  That's why it keeps coming back...the allergy has not been dealt with.  You can ask your vet to work your dog up for allergic ear disease.
