Question
The Vet has said our g.shepherd has panostetis and prescribed rimadyl 75mg for him.  Can he be given over the counter advil or such which would cost less. Or diclofenac 75 mg.
Thanks,
J

Answer
Jay -

Do not give your dog any over the counter medications.  Antiinflammatories such as advil, aleeve, and ibuprofen can cause bleeding in the stomach and ultimately kill your dog.  They also can cause kidney problems.    Panosteitis is a very serious disease, but it can be controlled with the correct medication.  You should give your pup the prescribed medications;  if they are too expensive, consult another veterinarian.
