Question
Hello,
I did a surgery to my female cat removing the ovaries and the uterus because she was secreting liquid from her vagina (this is what I am not sure vagina or butt but it is almost dark and there on her vagina and butt, now after the operation the doctor did not give her any antibiotics but a month after she developed a fever and we gave antibiotics shots for 8 days which put back her fever to a normal level, but the secretion is still there and the problem is that it is itching her so she is licking herself constantly which is making the whole area really sore and painful for her, I took her to the vet today he put the white collar thingy on her face so she won't lick herself and also we will give her 8 more shots now he told if the secretion does not stop we will have to operate again and see if there was anything left in there, mind you we did a radio picture and nothing appeared on it, so I am confused why this secretion did not stop yet can you please advise if you have seen a case like that before
thank you
Omar.

Answer
Omar -

Perhaps you should get another opinion.  if she developed pyometra then a spay should have taken care of it.  If she still has as discharge then it could be a bladder problem.  if you are sure she has a vaginal discharge, then there is the possibility that she has an infection of her uterine stump.  Antibiotics should take car of that infection.

If after antibiotic therapy her discharge does not clear up, have another veterinary professional examine her.
