Ask the Veterinarian/swollen dog

Question
I would like to know if you are familiar with any virus/disease that causes a dogs face to swell or do you think he may have gotten bitten. One side of my dogs face is swollen, his testicles are red and kind of look blistered and seems to have a kind of rash on his underbelly. He does not whine or act in pain, is eating and drinking normally and playful.

Answer
David -

Sudden swelling is usually a sign of some kind of allergic reaction.  Take your pet to the doctor to determine if he has been bitten by an insect or is allergic to something he has come in contact with such as the carpet, the grass, etc. Contact dermatitis can be controlled with medicine and (of course) avoidance of the offending allergen.
