Ask the Veterinarian/New Dog will not pee!

Question
We found a beautiful, seemingly healthy dog on a highway the other day and after no luck in finding her owners, we've decided to keep her.  We have had her for nearly 30 hours and she has not urinated or had a bowel movement yet.  I know that she has been drinking and eating, and we have been walking her regularly, but still nothing.  Should we go ahead and take her to the vet?  Or should we wait just a bit longer to let her get used to her surroundings?  Thanks-Leah

Answer
Leah -

Give her more time to get used to her new home.  She may be used to using the bathroom when she is alone.  I am sure that she is glad to be with you, but she needs time to get used to her new surroundings.  If you can, let her out to use the bathroom on her own.

If she attempts to use the bathroom and is unable to go, then hurry and get her to a doctor.
