Ask the Veterinarian/Cat acting strange... is it medical?

Question
Today my 4 year old cat started acting weird. He will jump up, act scared and start howling out of the blue. Then he will walk around like he is looking for something. No changes in eating or going to the bathroom and he doesn't act sick. I checked his mouth and ears and poked around to see if he had pain... nothing. He has done this 5 times since this morning and has never acted this way before today. I do have to mention that he was diagnosed with FIV as a kitten but is very active and seems completely healthy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Kelly -

Have you had your kitten examined by a veterinarian?  Unfortunately I cannot tell you what is bothering your cat without the  benefit of a physical exam.

You did not say what breed your cat is - some breeds tend to howl at night - bengals, and other domestically bred exotic cats will howl at what seems like nothing.
