Ask the Veterinarian/Fungal infection

Question
Dear Ms. Sherrell,

I suspect I got ringworm/microsporum from my bunny. I don't touch him anymore, but the ringworm is still spreading (I'm using Lamisil - Ttrbinafine hydrochloride -as a moisturizer to treat it).

So, since I don't pet my bunny anymore and the ringworm is still spreading, could that mean I didn't get it from the bunny?

Thanx a lot.

Answer
Ana -

There are many ways to contract a fungal infection.  There are also many skin infections that mimic ringworm - please see a doctor to make sure you have ringworm - you may need a different medication to treat the infection on your skin or you may have a secondary bacterial infection that may need different medication.

You should also make sure that your rabbits' dermatitis is ringworm, if it was not already diagnosed by a veterinarian.

Best Regards,
