Question
My vet put my dog on smz tmp for coughing, I am suppose to give her 2 tablets 960mg a day, however I have given her one yesterday and she started to breath very rapidly-panting, acting restless(wouldn't lay down)and had a fever are these normal side effects? It scared me!

Answer
Marisa -

It sounds as if your dog had a reaction to the drug.  Discontinue treatment with this drug and contact your veterinarian.  Make sure that its documented that your dog had such a reaction to a sulfa drug.
