About Jana Connell RVT, CVT
Expertise PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING TO ME:
I am NOT a vet and do NOT diagnose diseases. That is only for a licensed Veterinarian to do. I will give you suggestions and steer you toward calling your vet for help. You can call the vet's office and talk to the technician there or the vet at times. Don't be afraid to call them! If you have a serious issue with your pet please post it to one of the veterinarians in here- I will tell you the same thing in my answer.
IF your pet is injured or in an emergency situation, CALL YOUR VET- Do not wait and post in here. Just call the vet's office and get them in to see the vet right away. Critical treatment time is lost if you seek answers here when you should have your precious pet at the vets!! Don't sit at home waiting for an answer when your pet is critically ill or injured!!
I can answer most questions about small animal and wildlife care as well as small animal nutrition. I can also answer questions about all phases of dental care for small animals.
I DO NOT do birds (unless it is wildlife or songbirds) or HAMSTERS/GERBILS/CHINS/GUINEA PIGS/REPTILES/FROGS/RABBITS/PET BIRDS OF ANY KIND so please submit these questions to the appropriate sections. I, as well as other experts in here, do NOT do homework questions- that is for YOU to do! Please respect these rules for all of us. Thanks!

Question I've recently homed a rescue cat and have been feeding it wet and dry food. However, she has vomited the wet food back up again, hours after consumption. it's the same wet food she was eating in the shelter, and shows no other symptoms of any illness. what's wrong with her?
Answer Probably nothing, but that doesn't mean there isn't something wrong with the food.
Most food manufacturers today use an 'open formulation' which means while the label may say that the food has the same nutrients, it doesn't mean that the same ingredients were used as the last time she ate it.
As a result more pets get sick from the same foods that they ate the last time you bought them. Now it's like getting a whole new food unexpectedly- which can upset the digestive system of a cat or dog.
The only food left out there that uses 'fixed formulation' is Hill's pet foods. They make Science Diet and Prescription Diets.
All the rest have resorted to the open formulation to make more profits at the expense of your pets stomach.
That is just one cause of this, eating too fast can be another cause but the vomiting is then regurgitation and it's right away.
Maybe the food is too rich for her now. Cut it back or try a different, blander one like chicken and rice.
Or switch her over to Science Diet and she won't have this problem and will be a much healthier cat for it.
Check out the UK page of the Hill's site. It's full of information for owners.
